A recommendation for a place serving pork belly with kimchi stew, located near Gwanghwamun and Jonggak: “Oyang Shikgwan.”
It’s Oyang Shikgwan located underground, and the interior is really spacious. There were tables even in the back, and since it wasn’t too crowded in the evening, it was nice to be able to eat quietly.
There were many elderly gentlemen customers at various tables. You know it’s a good restaurant if the older generation frequents it, right?

Here are the menu options. For lunch, the kimchi stew set meal seems to be famous, and for dinner, they only have two options: pork belly and neck meat! If you order two servings or more of meat, they provide kimchi stew as a complimentary service. In reality, there are many restaurants in office districts where dining alone is more difficult than expected, but Oyang Shikgwan is solo-diner friendly. They even have individual stew stations at each table. I recommend it as a lunch spot for office workers near Jonggak Station!
At the self-service bar, there are various side dishes and lettuce wraps available, so you can take as much as you want to eat. It was very convenient.
The side dishes just keep coming out one after another, and they’re all delicious! As soon as I saw the side dishes, my mouth started watering.
Grilling the meat diligently and enjoying it. Since there’s no strong smell from the meat, it’s tender. I usually don’t like pork belly with too much fat, but the amount of fat and skin was just right, which I really liked.
The kimchi stew…
I took one bite and immediately ordered another bowl of rice. Since it came as a complimentary service, I didn’t expect much, but there was a lot of meat in the stew, and as it simmered, it just got better and better.
I left the Jonggak Station meat restaurant feeling extremely satisfied. Whenever I crave pork belly near my workplace from now on, I’ll definitely go to Oyang Shikgwan.
